The SBU detained an FSB agent who was directing attacks on Kherson
The Security Service of Ukraine reported the arrest in Kherson of an FSB agent who was passing information to Russian occupiers to enable attacks on the positions of Ukrainian defenders. According to investigators, the suspect is a native of the South Caucasus who had been living in Ukraine for many years using forged documents. To conceal his activities, he headed a local civic organization, using it as a cover.
According to the investigation, the man came to the attention of Russian intelligence services during the temporary occupation of Kherson, where he met an FSB officer. After the city was liberated, he was left in Ukrainian-controlled territory in a so-called “standby mode,” and later, contact was reestablished, and he was tasked with gathering information on the deployment locations of Ukrainian military forces.
To carry out these tasks, the agent extracted the necessary information from acquaintances and then personally verified potential targets near the positions of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. He passed the gathered information on to his FSB handler. In his correspondence, the suspect also expressed support for the full occupation of Kherson and the restoration of Russian rule.
SBU officers documented the agent’s activities and detained him at his residence. During searches, law enforcement officers seized forged documents and cell phones containing evidence of his collaboration with the Russian intelligence service.
The man was notified of the charges against him under Part 3 of Article 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—the unauthorized dissemination of information regarding the movement, deployment, or location of the Armed Forces of Ukraine under martial law.
The suspect is currently in custody without the right to bail. If found guilty, he faces up to 12 years in prison.
