The SBU detained a Russian agent who was directing strikes against Sloviansk

The Security Service of Ukraine detained a resident of Sloviansk who, according to investigators, worked for Russian military intelligence and passed on information about the positions of Ukrainian troops.

The suspect worked at a municipal public works company. According to investigators, Russian intelligence agencies took notice of him because of his anti-Ukrainian comments in Telegram chats.

Under the guise of business trips, the man collected data on the locations of Defense Forces personnel and military equipment, and also tracked backup command posts and the routes taken by Ukrainian troops.

He stored the collected information on his phone in the form of coordinates for potential targets. According to the SBU, the Russians planned to attack these targets with guided aerial bombs and rocket artillery, specifically the “Smerch” multiple launch rocket system.

SBU counterintelligence officers exposed and detained the agent at his residence. During a search, they seized his phone, which contained evidence of his collaboration with Russian military intelligence.

The man was notified of charges under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—treason under martial law. The court ordered him to be held in pretrial detention without the right to post bail.

He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property for his actions.
