The SBU foiled Russia's plans to launch attacks along the Poltava–Kharkiv highway
On July 30, the Counterintelligence Directorate of the Security Service of Ukraine exposed and detained an FSB agent who was assisting Russian troops in preparing attacks on the Kharkiv region. According to the investigation, the employee of a retail chain, who had been recruited by the Russian intelligence service, passed on the coordinates of Ukrainian military units to the occupiers and coordinated attacks, particularly along the strategic Poltava–Kharkiv highway.
According to the investigation, the agent turned out to be an employee of one of the well-known retail chains in Poltava. On assignment from the Russian intelligence service, he would take public buses to the Kharkiv region during his off-duty hours, where he gathered information about Ukrainian military bases, their movement routes, and the results of Russian strikes.
The suspect photographed the data he obtained, then plotted the coordinates on Google Maps and transmitted them to his FSB handler. To maintain secrecy, he deleted all correspondence after each communication session.
According to the SBU, Russian intelligence agencies planned to use the intelligence gathered to prepare a new series of missile and bomb strikes on the region.
Law enforcement officers detained the suspect at his residence in Poltava. During a search, they seized his smartphone and computer equipment containing evidence of collaboration with the enemy.
Investigators informed the detainee that he is suspected of violating Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—treason committed under martial law. He is currently in custody. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property, according to the SBU.
As a reminder, the National Police concluded the nationwide special operation “Gentlemen-2026,” during which law enforcement officers conducted 435 searches in 23 regions of Ukraine and Kyiv, dismantled 12 underground drug laboratories, and detained 34 individuals.
