Senator Graham calls on Congress to impose tougher sanctions on Russia

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, following a conversation with the President of Ukraine and his Democratic colleague Richard Blumenthal, has urged the US Congress to increase pressure on the Kremlin.

Graham reported this on social media platform X.

He stressed that it is in the interests of the United States to ensure Ukraine’s survival and prosperity in the face of Russian aggression.

Graham thanked US President Donald Trump for his efforts to end the war and stated directly: “I believe more pressure needs to be applied to Putin.”

During the dialogue, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasised the key role of a bipartisan sanctions bill against Russia. According to him, President Trump fully supports this initiative, which could fundamentally alter the position of Moscow and its allies.

The Ukrainian leader noted that the talks were “good and, as always, very constructive,” as he described the conversation on social media.

President Zelenskyy also briefed the senators in detail on Russia’s large-scale attacks on energy infrastructure.

“These are hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles every day. That is why missiles for air defence are our top priority,”Zelenskyy said, stressing Ukraine’s critical need for air defence systems.

He also reported that Ukraine is close to finalising key documents with Trump’s team and expressed gratitude for bipartisan support for security guarantees.
