Sikorski on Russia’s new missile strikes in Ukraine: “This is Putin’s promise to Trump”
Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski sharply reacted to the latest night-time attacks by Russia on Kyiv and other regions of Ukraine.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he noted that this is what Vladimir Putin’s “promise” to U.S. President Donald Trump not to strike Ukraine’s critical infrastructure for a week actually looks like. He added sarcastically: “That’s all there is to Putin’s promise to Trump.”
The day before, former U.S. President Donald Trump claimed he had allegedly agreed with Putin on a temporary pause in attacks during the extreme cold in Ukraine. According to Trump, the Russian leader had agreed not to carry out missile strikes for seven days in order to avoid worsening the humanitarian crisis.
However, just a few days after this statement, Moscow struck energy facilities and residential areas again, demonstrating no real intention to honor any agreement.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga strongly condemned these attacks, emphasising that neither diplomatic efforts in Abu Dhabi this week nor Moscow’s promises to the United States stopped Russian terror.
He stressed that striking energy facilities during severe frosts is a deliberate attempt to leave Ukrainians without heat or electricity. Sybiga highlighted that such behaviour by the Kremlin once again proves that Russia is not seeking peace, but merely trying to impose capitulation terms on Ukraine.
In Sumy, five-year-old twins miraculously survived a drone strike.
On Sumy’s territory, four people were injured during the night attack.
