The Ukrainian Armed Forces have confirmed that the dam at the Pechenizke Reservoir is intact
The Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that the dam of the Pechenizke Reservoir in Kharkiv Oblast has not sustained any damage.
According to them, water is being released in a planned and controlled manner.
The 16th Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported this on Facebook.
On April 14, the enemy made another attempt to attack the dam of the Pechenizke Reservoir. The Russians used guided aerial bombs: four of them hit the ground near the hydraulic structures, and two more fell into the water.
According to the military, the timing of the attack demonstrates the particular cynicism of the Russian invaders. The enemy is trying to take advantage of the moment when, due to the spring flood, the reservoir has reached its maximum water volume. Destroying the dam right now, during the “high water” period, would have led to catastrophic consequences for communities downstream, causing massive flooding and an environmental disaster.
Having failed physically, Russia has shifted to an information and psychological attack. On “pseudo-Kharkiv” social media pages controlled by the Russian Federation, they began spreading disinformation about damage to the dam and an alleged emergency water release.
In reality, the dam is not damaged. Water release is occurring in a planned, controlled manner. The situation is being fully monitored. Given the experience of previous insidious attacks, pre-developed rapid response plans for any force majeure circumstances are in place, the military emphasized.
