Russian judges have been notified of charges in connection with the sentencing of a Ukrainian prisoner of war
Law enforcement officials have documented yet another crime committed by a Russian judge and have charged him. The judge in question serves on the 2nd Western District Military Court of the Russian Federation.
This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.
According to the investigation, in September 2025, he handed down an unlawful sentence to a Ukrainian prisoner of war—a soldier of the 92nd Separate Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who was captured in December 2024. The soldier was sentenced to 14 years in prison effectively for participating in combat operations on the side of Ukraine.
Such actions directly violate international humanitarian law, specifically the Geneva Convention on the Treatment of Prisoners of War. The document explicitly prohibits holding prisoners accountable solely for participating in the war. Thus, the sentence handed down constitutes a violation of the laws and customs of war.
