The Russians' gains on the front lines in May were within the margin of error – Tregubov
Over the past month, Russian occupation forces have achieved extremely limited results on the battlefield, despite attempts to intensify their spring-summer offensive campaign. In total, the invaders managed to take control of only about 14 square kilometers of territory, which is an absolutely insignificant figure in the context of a full-scale offensive.
This was stated by Lieutenant Colonel Viktor Tregubov, spokesperson for the Joint Forces Operation (JFO).
According to Lieutenant Colonel Tregubov, the Russian command is currently trying by any means to compensate for the failures and miscalculations of previous months, which is why high-intensity clashes are continuing in several sectors of the front. Currently, the highest enemy activity is being recorded in the following areas:
Kharkiv region and the Kupiansk direction: the occupiers have noticeably intensified their activities and are attempting to advance in the Kupiansk area, particularly by stepping up their operations on the right bank of the Oskil River.
Sumy region: combat clashes have been recorded in the border area, where enemy units are attempting to establish a foothold on the eastern outskirts of the village of Ryasne.
Lymansk direction: There is constant offensive activity by the occupying forces here, despite the fact that it is on this section of the front that the invaders are suffering some of their heaviest casualties.
Ukrainian defense forces are confidently holding back the enemy’s pressure. This is significantly aided by the highly effective use of strike and reconnaissance unmanned aerial systems in the Lyman and Kupiansk directions. In addition, the Ukrainian military has radically changed its tactics for striking the enemy’s rear, beginning to massively employ the so-called “mid-strike”—precision strikes at medium range. As a result, the occupiers’ second line of defense and logistics hubs have come under fire. Russian heavy equipment has lost the safe zones it previously held, forcing the enemy to significantly limit its use on the front lines due to the systematic “removal” of logistical support.
The Joint Forces Operation spokesperson also noted that reports from the Russian military command and Vladimir Putin’s statements regarding the situation on the front lines have completely lost touch with reality and have turned into pure fantasy. However, it is becoming increasingly difficult for Kremlin propaganda to manipulate the consciousness of its own population. Moscow’s regular victory reports (such as the fake claims about the alleged capture of Malaya Tokmachka) are completely undermined by real events within Russia itself. Residents of St. Petersburg, for example, are forced to witness with their own eyes the huge plumes of black smoke from successful strikes on infrastructure targets, which has a far greater psychological impact than any statements by Russian officials.
Tregubov said this on Ukrainian Radio.
This fall, Russia may announce another mobilization amid the difficult situation on the Ukrainian front, the failure of the winter-spring offensive, and significant losses. State Duma Deputy Andrei Gurulov made this statement, linking the possible decision to Russia’s military setbacks in the war against Ukraine.
A new mobilization in Russia could harm Moscow, according to intelligence.
