Tregubov on the Sumy region: Russians have been trying to enter border villages for 10 days

Over the past ten days, Russian forces have been actively attempting to capture settlements along the border of Sumy Oblast.

The residents of these villages had previously been evacuated.

This was reported on television by Viktor Tregubov, spokesperson for the Joint Forces Operation.

“In the Sumy region, there is active pressure in the area of the villages of Hrabovske and Myropilskyi. Overall, along the border, the Russians have been quite actively trying over the past ten days to capture precisely the settlements right on the border,” he said.

According to Tregubov, after the Russians took more than 50 civilians from the village of Hrabovske last December, the nearest settlements were evacuated deeper into Ukrainian territory.

Now, Tregubov noted, the focus is on attempts to advance 500 meters deeper into Ukrainian territory, rather than on attempts to take Ukrainian civilians captive.

Speaking about the Kharkiv region, the spokesperson for the Joint Forces Operation stated that the situation on this section of the front remains largely unchanged.

“As for the Kharkiv region—everything is as it was. The same enclaves, the same incursions. This is the tiny town of Dehtiarne, two separate zones in the South Slobozhanskyi direction, one of which is Vovchansk, so there is nothing new here. There is a resurgence of some of the efforts we saw in the winter,” he said.

As State Border Service spokesperson Andriy Demchenko reported on television, over the past 24 hours, Russian troops attempted to storm border sections of the front in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions.

“Attempts at assault operations took place in the Sumy region, as well as within the Kharkiv region... Recently, such enemy assault operations have been recorded in the direction of the settlement of Vovchanski Khutory in the Kharkiv region. “As for the Sumy region, where State Border Guard Service units are stationed, fortunately, no increased activity has been recorded indicating that the enemy is attempting to storm the positions held by our soldiers,” Demchenko said.

He added that the enemy continues active shelling in the Sumy, Kharkiv, and Chernihiv regions, but cannot advance further because it is blocked by the combat positions of the Ukrainian military.

“The enemy continues to constantly send its soldiers to ‘probe’ Ukrainian defenses and identify Ukrainian firing positions,” noted the State Border Guard Service spokesperson.

In Sumy, a Russian strike hit a gas station, leaving one person injured.

Nearly 10 attacks in 24 hours: Sumy region under fire from mortars, drones, and guided aerial bombs.

As a reminder, the death toll from the massive drone attack on Odesa on January 27 has risen to four. An elderly man died in the hospital from his injuries.

On the night of January 29, Russia struck Odesa with attack drones, causing a fire at one of the industrial facilities.

As a reminder, the enemy attacked an infrastructure facility in Odesa with drones.

Drones also attacked an oil depot in the Voronezh region.
