Russian troops are trapped in the center of Kupiansk
Ukrainian defense forces have identified and contained a small group of Russian soldiers hiding in the center of Kupiansk.
This was reported on air during a national telethon by Viktor Tregubov, spokesperson for the Joint Forces Operation.
The occupiers have barricaded themselves in the basements of a destroyed city hospital, attempting to remain within the town.
According to preliminary intelligence reports, the group consists of about ten people. The invaders are trapped amid the ruins of the medical facility in the very center of the city, with virtually no possibility of further advancement.
Military command emphasizes that despite the presence of these remnants of enemy units, the city remains under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The Russian command continues to actively throw infantry into the assault on Kupiansk, using infiltration tactics from the north.
The enemy is attempting to infiltrate urban areas and neighboring villages in small groups, but so far these attempts have not yielded the desired success for the enemy.
Ukrainian defenders are detecting and neutralizing such units in a timely manner even as they approach residential areas.
The situation in the eastern sector is of particular concern, specifically on the left bank of the Oskil River. There, the Russian army has significantly intensified its pressure, attempting to break through to small nearby villages.
Although the occupiers have not reached Kupiansk itself in this sector, they pose a serious threat to nearby settlements, requiring significant efforts to repel their attacks.
The situation around the city remains consistently tense due to the enemy’s extremely high activity.
The Russians have not abandoned their plans to recapture this important logistics hub, but every attempt at an assault is repelled by the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ echeloned defense.
Officer Viktor Tregubov noted that Ukrainian troops are doing their utmost to prevent the enemy from expanding its zone of control.
