The Center for Public Diplomacy debunked a Russian fake news story claiming that "hundreds of Ukrainian drones had crashed" in the Baltic region
Russian propaganda outlets are spreading disinformation about the alleged downing of 304 Ukrainian drones over the Baltic states and Finland in the past three months.
This was officially reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD) under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, refuting yet another manipulation by the aggressor.
To make the fake news seem credible, propagandists cite fabricated reports from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Additionally, a video is circulating online, styled to resemble a report from a well-known European media outlet, claiming that the authorities of these countries are deliberately concealing incidents involving damage and casualties.
“In reality, no such video exists on the official resources of the publication whose logo was used to create the fake. It is entirely fabricated. The ISW has also not made any such statements or published any related research,” the Center for Countering Disinformation emphasized.
Experts note that the use of fake logos of international media outlets and institutions is a typical method of the Russian disinformation network “Matryoshka.”
This network systematically creates manipulative content to discredit Ukraine in the eyes of its strategic partners and the international community.
The main goal of such disinformation campaigns is to shift the blame for the failures of the Russian air defense system onto other countries.
The aggressor also attempts to justify its own hybrid attacks and aggressive rhetoric directed against Northern European countries that support Kyiv.
As a reminder, Ukrainian drones cross into Belarusian territory during attacks on Russia.
Ukrainian drones may also have “strayed” into Finland due to GPS malfunctions.
