A Russian dry cargo ship carrying wheat has sunk in the Sea of Azov
A dry cargo ship carrying wheat sank in the Sea of Azov off the coast of the Kherson region on April 5, 2026.
This was reported by the Gauleiter of Kherson Oblast, Volodymyr Saldo. The first mate, born in 1991, died as a result of the disaster. Two other crew members are currently listed as missing.
Nine crew members, who are Russian citizens, were found on the shore. Local residents provided first aid to the victims before emergency services arrived. The exact cause of the shipwreck has not yet been reported. The circumstances of the incident are being determined as part of the investigation.
Meanwhile, the Turkish government has expressed deep concern over the attack on the Turkish oil tanker ALTURA, which occurred in neutral waters of the Black Sea.
