Citizens of 48 countries who fought for Russia are being held captive in Ukraine — Joint Operations Command

Citizens of 48 countries who fought on the side of the Russian Federation against Ukraine are currently being held captive in Ukraine.

This was stated by Dmytro Usov, secretary of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, during the presentation of a report on foreign fighters in the Russian army.

According to him, there are hundreds of foreigners, not just dozens.

The largest groups among the prisoners are citizens of Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Nepal, and Kyrgyzstan.

The Coordination Headquarters also notes that the number of foreigners being taken prisoner is increasing.

In addition, Ukraine has already identified over 28,000 individuals who joined the Russian Armed Forces to fight against Ukraine.

Overall, according to intelligence reports, representatives from 136 countries have served in the Russian armed forces, and at least 5,149 foreigners have died in the war against Ukraine.

Ukraine conducted another prisoner exchange, resulting in the return of 193 Ukrainian servicemen.

All 11 Ukrainian prisoners of war whom Russia handed over to Hungary in 2023 subsequently left the country. Most of them returned to Ukraine, while the rest moved to other countries.
