Finland Explains Why It Will Not Supply Ukraine with Patriot Missiles — Ilta-Sanomat
Finland cannot transfer interceptor missiles for Patriot systems to Ukraine, as this could jeopardize its own air defense readiness.
Finnish Defense Minister Antti Hykkänen made this statement in an interview with Ilta-Sanomat. According to him, the issue of Patriot missile stocks in European countries is important given Ukraine’s urgent need for such munitions. At the same time, the U.S. defense industry plays a key role in ensuring the necessary number of missiles.
Finland does not have Patriot anti-aircraft missiles in service. However, Hykkänen noted that the country has certain capabilities regarding other types of anti-aircraft missiles, but did not disclose details about the mechanisms for supporting Ukraine.
“We have done significantly more than one might expect from a country of our size, but as a country on the front lines, we cannot jeopardize our own combat readiness in the area of air defense,” the minister stated.
Hakkinen also warned that the coming winter could be the most difficult for Ukraine in all the years of full-scale war. According to him, Russia is seeking to paralyze Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and make the winter months as difficult as possible.

As a reminder, during his first official visit to Serbia, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that deliveries of interceptor missiles for the Patriot systems in 2026 have decreased compared to 2025.
The Air Force reported that 72% of drones were destroyed during a nighttime attack by Russia.
