A Russian FSB spy ring was uncovered in Kramatorsk
On August 28, the SBU’s counterintelligence unit dismantled an FSB spy ring in the Donetsk region and detained four of its members. The suspects were recording the coordinates of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and monitoring the aftermath of Russian attacks.
The priority intelligence targets assigned to the agents by the Russian special service were backup command posts, logistics depots, fortifications, and the routes taken by the Ukrainian Defense Forces toward the front lines. Also, at the FSB’s request, the agents monitored the effects of Russian attacks on Kramatorsk to prepare new strikes and adjust follow-up strikes on the city.
According to the case file, the three suspects were recruited through a longtime acquaintance of theirs who lives in St. Petersburg and works for Alexander Nogash, an employee of the “FSB Directorate in the DPR.”
One of the agents turned out to be a driver for a housing and utilities company in Kramatorsk, who, under the guise of work-related trips, drove around the city to identify and report the locations of Ukrainian defenders to the enemy.
In addition, he was searching for potential candidates for further recruitment by Russian intelligence officers. The group also included a local plumber and his wife, who drove around the city in their own car to record, using their phone’s camera, facilities that they believed were being used by the Defense Forces.
Subsequently, the agent couple recruited their friend—a local real estate agent—to collaborate with the enemy; acting on orders from the FSB, she gathered intelligence on the locations where personnel were concentrated and the movement routes of Donetsk region defenders.
SBU officers exposed all four suspects, documented their crimes, and detained them at their residences. During searches of their homes, investigators seized smartphones and other electronic devices containing evidence of their work for the FSB.
SBU investigators informed the detainees that they are suspected of violating Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed under martial law). The suspects are currently in custody. They face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Earlier, a Russian agent who was planning attacks on Ukrzaliznytsia was detained in Lviv.
As a reminder, in the Rivne region, an FSB agent coordinated Russian strikes and planned the murders of military personnel.
In addition, in the Kharkiv region, the Security Service of Ukraine exposed and detained a Russian agent who was assisting the occupiers with the registration of Starlink terminals.
