An explosion occurred involving a government vehicle in the Kursk region; there are casualties
An explosion occurred in the center of the city of Rylsk, Kursk Oblast, Russian Federation, involving an official vehicle belonging to the district administration. According to preliminary reports, a remote-controlled explosive device was detonated.
Several officials and administration employees were injured in the incident.
In particular, District Head Volodymyr Kovalchuk was injured—he sustained blast trauma and shrapnel wounds to his legs.
The driver of the vehicle, Sergey Besedin, director of the administrative services department, was also injured. He sustained injuries to his abdomen and thigh and is currently undergoing surgery.
Two other administration employees who were near the building sustained acoustic trauma and shrapnel wounds to their limbs.
All the injured are being transported to the Rylsk Hospital, and some are scheduled to be transferred to medical facilities in Kursk.
The area of the incident has been cordoned off, and bomb disposal experts are working at the scene. The circumstances of the explosion are being investigated.
