In February 2026, Russian forces carried out nearly 400 incidents involving chemical munitions

In February 2026, Russian forces carried out nearly 400 incidents involving chemical munitions with irritant substances.

This was reported by the head of communications for the Support Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Maxym Kravchuk.

According to him, the enemy used K-51 and RG-VO gas grenades filled with CS and CN agents, which are typically classified as riot control measures. These substances are used by law enforcement in many countries exclusively in peacetime for controlling mass disturbances under regulated conditions. While they are not classified as lethal chemical warfare agents, they cause severe irritation of the mucous membranes, tearing, coughing, shortness of breath, disorientation, and temporary incapacitation.

The Support Forces noted that some symptoms of exposure may partially resemble the effects of other chemical irritants or mixtures of unknown composition.

Under the Chemical Weapons Convention, the use of such substances in warfare is prohibited. Units of radiation, chemical, and biological protection document every incident, and collected samples are submitted for forensic analysis.

Since the start of Russia’s full-scale aggression against Ukraine, over 13,000 cases of exposure to hazardous chemical substances have been documented.

The Defence Forces also struck a space communications centre and enemy air defence facilities.

Previously, powerful explosions were reported at Belbek Airfield in Crimea, and drones attacked the Ilsky oil refinery and Sevastopol.
