Explosion Near Railway Station in Moscow: Police Officer and Suspected Bomber Killed

On the night of February 24, a loud explosion occurred near the Savyolovsky railway station in the Russian capital.

According to preliminary reports from Russian sources, the blast took place near a traffic police patrol vehicle. One law enforcement officer was killed and two others were injured. The suspected attacker also died at the scene.

The incident reportedly occurred around midnight, when an unidentified man approached a traffic police crew. Shortly afterward, an explosive device of unknown type detonated.

Russian media report that the  officer was 34-year-old Senior Lieutenant Denis Bratushchenko. The injured officers were hospitalized in local medical facilities.

Investigators claim they have identified the alleged perpetrator. According to preliminary information, he arrived in Moscow from St. Petersburg, reportedly using taxi services. The force of the explosion allegedly threw his body onto a nearby transformer booth.

The area around the station has been cordoned off by security forces. Forensic experts and representatives of the Investigative Committee of Russia are working at the scene.

Earlier reports indicated that another high-ranking Russian officer was killed in Moscow this year, and an explosion also occurred at a military commandant’s office building in Leningrad region.
