The National Guard explained why Russia has largely stopped using armored vehicles in assaults
Russian troops are increasingly less likely to use armored vehicles during offensive operations, instead relying on infantry assaults and the covert buildup of forces for localized breakthroughs.
This was reported by Ruslan Muzychuk, a spokesperson for the National Guard of Ukraine.
According to him, during this year’s summer campaign, the occupiers effectively did not carry out any large-scale mechanized attacks. Instead, there have been mainly infantry assaults, particularly by small groups or even individual soldiers, who are gradually concentrating at specific positions.
Muzychuk explained that such tactics allow the enemy to discreetly concentrate forces and equipment in an attempt to make sudden breakthroughs in specific sections of the front.
As an example, he cited an attack near Shakove, where Russian troops concentrated several armored vehicles for an offensive. At the same time, Ukrainian defenders detected the preparations in advance and, during a battle lasting several hours, destroyed most of the strike force, in particular with the help of drones.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also announced that the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) is preparing new operations against Russia. During a meeting with SBU Director Oleksandr Poklad, the head of state heard a report on the agency’s plans and priorities for August and approved the corresponding measures.
On the night of August 4, 2026, drones attacked the distribution center of “Lenta,” one of Russia’s largest supermarket chains, in the Leningrad Oblast. The strike caused a fire at the facility, and operations at the goods receiving warehouse were temporarily suspended.
