A Ukrainian man who was plotting an assassination on behalf of Russia was detained in Poland

A Ukrainian citizen has been detained in Warsaw on suspicion of plotting an assassination attempt against a representative of the Ukrainian defense sector at the behest of Russian intelligence agencies. Following a failed terrorist attack in Irpin, he planned to go into hiding in Poland.

The detainee could face life imprisonment for his actions.

Details of the Assassination Attempt in Irpin

According to the Polish Internal Security Agency (ABW), 63-year-old Serhiy P. planted a homemade explosive device under the car of a Ukrainian arms industry official in Irpin, Kyiv Oblast.

The investigation established that the perpetrator was acting on behalf of Russian intelligence services.

The device was supposed to be detonated remotely using a cell phone, but the explosion did not occur due to a malfunction in the mechanism.

After the failed assassination attempt, the suspect fled to Poland.

Arrest in Warsaw and Charges

ABW officers located the man and arrested him in Warsaw on August 5. The arrest was made possible through cooperation between Polish law enforcement and their Ukrainian counterparts.

The suspect was charged with the attempted murder of a representative of the Ukrainian defense industry using explosives and with the illegal possession of explosive substances.

The court remanded Serhiy P. in custody for three months. Under Polish law, he faces life imprisonment.

A suspect in the attack on Ukrainian children has been detained in Poland.

Earlier, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk responded to the attack by two individuals on Ukrainian children in Bydgoszcz.

Prior to that, on the evening of August 1, an attack took place in the city of Kozhukhiv (Lubusz Voivodeship) against three Ukrainian citizens—37-year-old Volodymyr, 32-year-old Vasyl, and 28-year-old Adelina. The incident took place on the private grounds of the hostel where the victims reside.
