Russia complained that a drone had killed a collaborator—the chief engineer of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant

In occupied Energodar, Alexander Yakovlev, the so-called chief engineer of the captured Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, was killed when a drone struck an official vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was also killed at the scene. This was stated by Alexei Likhachev, head of the Russian state corporation Rosatom.

According to Likhachev, the attack took place on the border between the plant’s industrial site and the city of Energodar. The head of Rosatom also added that the Russian side has already informed its country’s political leadership and expects a “prompt and clear response” from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Oleksandr Yakovlev was born in Ukraine and had worked at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant for a long time, even before the start of the full-scale Russian invasion and occupation of the plant.

After the Russian military seized Energodar and the nuclear facility, Yakovlev voluntarily began collaborating with the enemy. He received a Russian passport and signed an official contract with Rosatom, helping the occupiers control the seized plant and participate in acts of nuclear blackmail and terrorism against Ukraine.

Russian troops are effectively using the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in Enerhodar as a military base. On July 13, the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) warned of the danger posed by the deployment of troops and equipment on the territory of the nuclear facility.

Robert “Madyar” Brovdi, commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces, released a new report on the results of the Ukrainian military’s operations. According to him, over the past 24 hours, on July 12, 1,725 unique enemy targets were destroyed or struck.

Additionally, the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Unmanned Systems Forces, in coordination with the Main Intelligence Directorate and the State Border Guard Service, struck one of Rosneft’s largest oil refineries. A key industrial facility in the southern Volga region was also targeted.
