In Russia, a Ukrainian man was sentenced to 25 years in a case involving sabotage near Moscow
Russia’s Second Western District Military Court sentenced a 39-year-old Ukrainian citizen to 25 years in prison in a case involving alleged sabotage in the Moscow region. According to Russian authorities, the man was accused of planning and carrying out acts of sabotage, but he pleaded not guilty and stated in court that his previous testimony was given under pressure and torture.
This was reported by the opposition publication Mediazona.
A Russian court found the man guilty under articles regarding participation in sabotage and terrorist groups, carrying out terrorist attacks and acts of sabotage, as well as high treason.
According to the prosecution’s version, the Ukrainian participated in the arson of relay cabinets, equipment on a cell tower, and buses at the Ministry of Internal Affairs parking lot in Domodedovo. He was also charged with setting fire to a Russian military vehicle marked with the letter Z and preparing an attack on a military unit.
Dmytro Balog himself did not admit his guilt. In court, he stated that he had made his initial confessions under torture. According to the defendant, law enforcement officers used a stun gun on him, tied him to a chair, and threatened his family. Balog completely retracted these statements after a lawyer joined the case under a plea agreement.
