In Ryazan, drones attacked one of Russia's largest oil refineries, causing a fire

On the night of May 15, a series of powerful explosions rocked the Russian city of Ryazan during a drone attack. This was followed by a massive fire at the Ryazan Oil Refinery.

This is reported by OSINT channels and Russian local public groups.

According to eyewitnesses, explosions began to be heard in the city around 2 a.m.

Local residents reported 8–10 explosions in various areas of Ryazan, the sound of drones flying, bright flashes in the sky, air defense systems in operation, and heavy smoke following the strikes.

Photos and videos of a large fire at an industrial facility were also circulating online.

According to monitoring sources, the Ryazan Oil Refinery, one of the largest in Russia, may have been targeted.

Its design capacity is about 17.1 million tons of oil per year, which is approximately 5% of Russia’s total oil refining capacity.

There is currently no official confirmation of the extent of the damage from local authorities.

At the same time, reports emerged of air defense operations in several Russian regions.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced that five drones had been shot down in the Moscow region.

Residents of Taganrog and Yeisk also reported air defense operations.

Gazprom’s Astrakhan gas processing plant halted production of automotive fuel following a drone attack on May 13. The strike caused a massive fire at the facility, damaging key processing equipment.

Earlier, in the Belgorod region of the Russian Federation, a Russian fighter jet accidentally dropped a high-explosive bomb on railroad tracks during a combat mission, causing an electric train to derail.

As a reminder, the day before, the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked the Tuapse oil refinery for the fourth time in the last two weeks. A massive fire broke out on the refinery’s grounds following a series of explosions.

As a reminder, drones attacked Tuapse again, causing fires at the oil refinery and in the port.
