Russian units have canceled leave until May 9
Several Russian units have canceled leave through May 9 due to expectations of active combat operations. Russian military command fears possible assaults from Ukraine. At the same time, this may also indicate that Russian troops themselves are preparing for an escalation. Vladislav Voloshin, spokesperson for the Southern Defense Forces, reported this in a comment to Ukrinform.
In some units of the Russian Army’s 19th Motorized Rifle Division, the Russian 19th Motorized Rifle Division has canceled leave for personnel until May 9. This was reported by Vladislav Voloshin, spokesperson for the Southern Defense Forces, while commenting on the situation at the front.
According to him, the Russian command expects possible active operations by Ukrainian forces during this period and is trying to minimize the risk of losing control over its units. “According to our intelligence, leave has been canceled until May 9 in several units because the enemy believes that the Ukrainian Defense Forces may carry out assault operations,” Voloshin noted.
He explained that Russian military personnel fear possible breakthroughs along the front line, so they are placing personnel on constant alert.
At the same time, according to the spokesperson, such decisions may also have the opposite implication—they could indicate that Russian units themselves are preparing for an intensification of hostilities in the near future.
In fact, this involves both defensive caution and potential preparations for escalation, as both sides anticipate increased activity on the front lines.
The temporarily occupied Crimea came under a massive drone attack on the night of April 26. Explosions and active Russian air defense operations were reported in various areas.
Additionally, on the night of April 26, the Ukrainian Armed Forces struck an oil refinery in the Russian city of Yaroslavl.
