There are calls in Russia to bring back "Lenin rooms" in schools

In Russia, there are calls to bring back so-called “Lenin rooms” to schools—special rooms that existed during the Soviet era. The initiative was proposed by Senator Airat Gibatdinov, a member of the Federation Council’s Committee on Science and Education, according to Russian media reports.

According to him, such rooms could become a place where children are taught “values needed by the state” and their moral spirit is strengthened. He believes this will help counter the influence of Western culture. “It is worth returning to the practice of creating Lenin Rooms in schools… Today, against the backdrop of attempts to rewrite history and supplant the Russian cultural agenda, such formats are once again in demand,” the senator stated.

During the Soviet era, “Lenin Rooms” were a common feature in schools, enterprises, and various institutions. These were special spaces where leisure activities and ideological education were combined. Events, lectures, and meetings were held there, and portraits and busts of Vladimir Lenin, as well as party literature, were displayed.

The senator also emphasized that the state must work more actively with historical memory. “If the state does not engage with historical memory, others will do it for it—but in their own interests,” he added.

For now, this is merely a proposal, and no concrete decisions regarding its implementation have been made yet. At the same time, the very idea of bringing Soviet practices back into the education system is once again sparking debate in society.

The Center for Countering Disinformation reported that rumors circulating on hostile Telegram channels about the alleged murder of an employee of the Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center in Kharkiv are fake.

Russian propaganda, through a network of Telegram channels and pro-Kremlin bloggers, has begun actively spreading false information about the alleged establishment of control over the village of Novoplatonivka, located in the Kupiansk direction.
