A series of mysterious deaths among the business elite continues in Russia. Near Volgograd, 42-year-old Sergey Loiter—the former commercial director of Yandex, who had been working in the international division of Yango in recent years—died while fishing on the Volga River. Two other men went missing with him—Volgograd developer Sergei Nazarov and driver Igor Prokhorov. The bodies of Loiter and Prokhorov were later found. Nazarov has not yet been located.
According to local media reports, one of the victims had head injuries. Sources speculate that the boat may have capsized or that the men struck something during the incident. There are no official conclusions yet. This is at least the 20th case of a top manager or major businessman dying under unclear circumstances in Russia since the start of the full-scale war against Ukraine.
As early as 2022, a wave of such deaths became particularly noticeable. At that time, executives of major companies, including Gazprom Invest, Novatek, and Gazprombank, died. Some cases appeared to be suicides, others—accidents or falls from a height.
In the years that followed, similar stories continued. Among them were the deaths of top managers at Lukoil, Uralkali, Yakutskenergo, and other major companies. In many cases, the circumstances remain unexplained or raise questions.
The latest incident involving Sergei Loiter only reinforces this alarming trend. Official authorities have not yet made detailed statements regarding the causes of the tragedy. The investigation is ongoing.
