Russian drone found in Romania near the border with Ukraine
A Russian unmanned aerial vehicle without a combat unit was discovered in Romania near the borders with Ukraine and Moldova, after entering the country on the night of 25 November.
Romanian Defence Minister Ion Mosteanu called it the “deepest” incursion of a Russian drone into Romania since the start of the full-scale war, according to Digi24.
The drone was found in Vaslui County, near Moldova’s western border and quite far from Ukraine.
“It was supposed to be a day of celebration, but now there is no cause for celebration. We have another Russian drone incursion, a new challenge from Russia for Romania. The Romanian military and German Eurofighters tried to shoot down the drone,” Mosteanu said, speaking from Mihail Kogălniceanu Airbase.
He added that Romanian and German pilots, who were on alert during the night, had permission to fire but decided against it due to the high risk of collateral damage.
Mosteanu also noted that Romania will soon receive new air defence capabilities, which will improve its response to such incidents. In connection with the discovery, the minister returned urgently to Bucharest to coordinate further actions.
