Second day of trilateral talks between Ukraine, the US, and Russia begins in Geneva
Today, 18 February, trilateral consultations resumed in Geneva, Switzerland, with delegations from Ukraine, the United States, and Russia.
As on the previous day, the talks are being held behind closed doors, Ukrainian delegation head and Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council Rustem Umerov reported.
The first day of meetings revealed deep divisions between the parties on political issues. According to Western media, the political group “reached an impasse,” which has been attributed to the uncompromising position of the head of the Russian delegation, Vladimir Medinsky.
At the same time, some progress is being observed in the military working group, where experts continue to discuss the mechanics of potential solutions.
Despite the complexity of the process, the American side stated the previous day that there had been “significant progress” on technical aspects of the negotiations.
For context, Starmer and Trump discussed the Geneva talks regarding Ukraine and Iran. Ukraine also announced the composition of its delegation for the Geneva negotiations.
