The UN has condemned the new wave of Russian strikes on Kyiv, Dnipro, and Kharkiv

Matthias Schmale, the UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Ukraine, condemned the large-scale Russian strikes on Kyiv, Dnipro, and Kharkiv, which resulted in the deaths and injuries of civilians.

Schmale noted that this is the third large-scale attack on Ukrainian cities in the past three weeks. According to him, the shelling killed civilians, injured dozens of people—including children—and caused destruction and damage to residential buildings, hospitals, and shops.

He emphasized that instead of starting their summer vacation, Ukrainian children and their families were forced to spend the night in shelters amid the sounds of explosions and air raid sirens.

According to the UN representative, the war continues to inflict serious harm on the civilian population and negatively impacts the mental health of people living in constant fear of new attacks.

Matthias Schmale emphasized that international humanitarian law requires the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure, including residential buildings and medical facilities.

He also called for an end to the escalation of attacks and aggressive rhetoric to pave the way for a just peace.
