Ukraine is launching the "Army of Robots" project to advance technology in warfare — Fedorov
Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced the launch of the “Army of Robots” project, which is intended to promote the development and scaling up of robotic technologies in warfare.
He recalled that the “Drone Army” was launched in 2022. At that time, few people could have imagined just how much drones would change the nature of warfare. Today, drones account for over 95% of strikes, and there are already more than 700 UAV manufacturers operating in Ukraine.
At the same time, he emphasized that the technological race is not standing still.
“We need the next breakthrough. Our bet is on the robotization of war,” Fedorov noted.
Robots, not people, should do the fighting
As noted, the goal of the “Robot Army” is to save human lives. The most dangerous tasks should be performed by robots so that Ukrainian soldiers can return home.
The battlefield of the future should look like this: first, a sensor detects a threat, then a robot enters the danger zone.
According to the former defense minister, humanoid robots should evacuate the wounded and deliver ammunition. They should lay and clear mines. Conduct reconnaissance. Defend positions. They should engage targets. They should be the first to enter areas where soldiers currently risk their lives.
Fedorov noted that the “Army of Robots” is not just one company. It is an ecosystem.
“We will invest in defense tech companies, launch our own technology projects, establish R&D, test solutions together with the military, and scale up what actually works on the battlefield as quickly as possible,” he said.
At the same time, it’s worth noting that Russia has learned to quickly copy and scale military technologies. Therefore, we must constantly develop the next technological cycle before the enemy does. To achieve this, we need to bring together the best engineers, military expertise, capital, and technology—and focus them on a single goal: ensuring that robots, not people, do the fighting.
“Even outside the government, now from the private sector, we continue to work on our vision of technological warfare—AIR. LAND. ECONOMY. And on our main mission—to create technologies that help Ukraine win and save the lives of our military personnel,” Fedorov noted.
Robotics is one of the areas where there is an opportunity to make the next technological breakthrough.
Fedorov added that they are actively seeking defense tech companies and engineers who work with robotic technologies. They are also looking for a CTO/Tech Lead for the Army of Robots.
He wrote about this on his Telegram channel.
Fedorov returned to Kyiv and announced new projects.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that he has not been in contact with former Minister Mykhailo Fedorov recently.
