Explosion at the Nizhnekamskneftekhim plant: more than 60 people injured, two dead
A massive explosion and fire occurred at the Nizhnekamskneftekhim plant in Nizhnekamsk, Russia, killing two people and injuring more than 60 others.
This was reported by Meduza.
According to SIBUR, the company that owns the plant, the incident was caused by equipment failure.
The explosion damaged nearby buildings—windows were blown out in neighboring houses. Emergency services are on the scene, and firefighting efforts are ongoing.
The mayor of Nizhnekamsk reported that employees not involved in the cleanup efforts have been evacuated to a safe distance.
After the incident, residents complained of a chemical odor in the air, but local authorities stated that no threat to the population or the environment had been detected.
Operations at the local airport were also temporarily suspended, but the restrictions were later lifted.
