Russian propaganda is spreading a new wave of disinformation in an attempt to disrupt the evacuation of civilians from frontline areas in the Donetsk region.
This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation.
A video featuring a woman who claims to be a resident of Myrnohrad is being widely circulated online, in which she alleges that Ukrainian law enforcement officers are “kidnapping children” and punishing mothers for refusing to evacuate.
In particular, the video promotes the false claim that children are allegedly being returned to frontline cities “in suitcases and bags.”
The Center emphasizes that such claims have no basis in fact and are part of an information operation.
The goal of such disinformation is to intimidate the population and force people to refuse evacuation, in order to use civilians as “human shields.”
The Center notes that Russian propaganda has been using such methods since 2014, in particular by spreading fabricated stories about alleged crimes against children.
Russian propaganda outlets are spreading disinformation about the alleged downing of 304 Ukrainian drones over the Baltic states and Finland in the past three months.
A large-scale disinformation campaign has begun in Europe aimed at discrediting Ukraine through false accusations of “energy terrorism.”
