Video: SBU blows up Russian submarine in Novorossiysk
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) carried out a successful special operation in the port of Novorossiysk, striking a Russian submarine.
For the first time in history, underwater drones “Sub Sea Baby” attacked a Project 636.3 “Varshavyanka” submarine (NATO designation — Kilo), causing critical damage and effectively taking it out of combat service.
On board the submarine were four launchers for “Kalibr” cruise missiles, which Russia uses to strike Ukraine.
The operation was jointly conducted by the SBU’s 13th Main Directorate of Military Counterintelligence and the Ukrainian Navy.
The estimated cost of a “Varshavyanka”-class submarine is around 400 million USD, and taking into account international sanctions, building a similar submarine today could cost up to 500 million USD. These submarines are also known as the “Black Hole” due to their high stealth against sonar detection.
On the night of December 14, Ukrainian Special Operations Forces carried out a series of targeted strikes on military objectives in temporarily occupied territories, using FP-2 attack drones to complete their missions.
