Video: Two power substations caught fire in Crimea following explosions
On the night of July 2, in the temporarily occupied Crimea, fires broke out at the “Donuzlav” and “Mityaevo” power substations following a drone attack. Explosions were also reported in the vicinity of the Tavriya Thermal Power Plant and the Simferopol District Power Plant.
The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that drones were shot down over the peninsula between 8:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.
According to their data, Russian air defenses shot down a total of 327 drones over Crimea, the Black Sea, the Sea of Azov, and Russia during this period.
The air raid alert on the peninsula was announced by Sevastopol “governor” Mikhail Razvozhayev and the occupying Ministry of Emergency Situations via the Russian government app MAKH.
According to the Telegram channel “Crimean Wind,” citing satellite data, the 110/35/10 kV “Mityaevo” substation in the Yevpatoria district caught fire overnight—a major power grid hub that steps down high voltage for further transmission to villages and cities.
Satellites also detected a fire at the 220 kV “Donuzlav” substation in the Yevpatoria district—an important hub substation, the channel reports. It is located 6 km northeast of the village of Mirny and is used to receive and distribute high-voltage power.
In addition, eyewitnesses told “Crimean Wind” that they heard four strikes in Feodosia during the night: three near the oil depot and one on Mount Tepe-Oba, where radar stations are located under domes.
Also, at 4:13 a.m., a “powerful explosion” was heard near the Simferopol Thermal Power Plant, and residents heard a drone attack on the Tavriya Thermal Power Plant as well as air defense systems in action.
