On the night of June 3, drones approached St. Petersburg and struck the St. Petersburg Oil Terminal (SPT) in Ugolnaya Gavan. A fire broke out at the site, engulfing the tank farm. Black smoke was visible from several districts.
The OSINT channel Exilenova+ published photos from the scene: the images show thick black smoke over the facility’s grounds, and in one photo taken from a higher vantage point, the “Lakhta Center” skyscraper is clearly visible on the horizon, confirming the location. St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov reported that three UAVs were shot down over the city. The extent of the damage and the number of casualties are being determined.
The attack occurred on the first day of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), which is taking place in the city from June 3 to 6 at the ExpoForum exhibition center. Putin will personally participate in the event—his speech at the plenary session is scheduled for June 5. An official U.S. delegation will also attend the forum for the first time in several years: Rodney Mims Cook, head of the Federal Commission on the Fine Arts, stated that he was personally invited to Putin’s speech and will be present. The burning oil terminal is located a few kilometers from the city center.
