Video: One person was killed and more than 20 were wounded as a result of a nighttime attack by Russia on the Kyiv region
As a result of a massive Russian attack on the night of August 5 in the Bucha District of Kyiv Oblast, one person was killed and 22 more civilians were wounded. The strikes damaged civilian infrastructure, and emergency services are on the scene.
The highest number of casualties—13—was recorded in the Brovary district; three more were injured in the Fastiv district, and five—including the fatality—were injured directly in the Bucha district. All those affected are receiving the necessary medical care.
“Once again, the enemy is deliberately targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure. We urge residents not to ignore air raid sirens and to ensure their own safety,” the Regional State Administration stated in its report.
The impact of the attack on the region has been documented in three districts: in the Brovary District, warehouses and industrial facilities were damaged; in the Bucha and Fastiv Districts, warehouse buildings were also damaged.
That same night, the capital was also targeted. According to preliminary data from the State Emergency Service, one person was killed and seven others were injured in Kyiv as a result of a massive drone and ballistic missile attack. Later, Mayor Vitali Klitschko clarified that 24 people were injured in the enemy’s nighttime attack, 15 of whom were hospitalized. Four of the injured are in critical condition. According to medical officials, one person died.
Fires and damage were reported in four districts of Kyiv at once:
- in the Obolon district, a fire broke out in a non-residential building at one address, killing one person and injuring three;
- in the Svyatoshynsky district, shelling caused a fire in the storage area of a store; in the Holosiivsky district, fires at two locations in non-residential buildings were extinguished; four people were injured, two of whom were hospitalized;
- in the Desnianskyi district, fires broke out in two non-residential buildings.
In addition, a minor ammonia leak occurred on the premises of an industrial facility in the Holosiivskyi district—a system containing approximately 300 liters of the substance was damaged. Rescue workers quickly contained the leak; there is no threat to the public.
Rescue workers, medical personnel, and all relevant services continue to operate on the ground in Kyiv and the region; information regarding fatalities and injuries is still being verified.
