The military refuted Putin's claims that they were 12 km from Sumy
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin’s claim that Russian troops are allegedly 12 kilometers away from Sumy is untrue and contradicts his previous statements.
A few days ago, Putin claimed that the Russian army was supposedly 12 kilometers away from the Sumy ring road.
Ukrainian military officials pointed out that this figure does not match the Kremlin leader’s previous statements.
“A few days ago, he stated that Russian troops were 12 kilometers away from the Sumy bypass. But there’s a catch: on June 29, according to Putin himself, the invaders were 10.5 kilometers away from Sumy. The Russian army is the only army in the world that has been ‘capturing’ settlements for two months in a row, and during that time has moved one and a half kilometers farther away from its own objective. And it considers this an achievement,” Ukrainian military officials note ironically.
Thus, according to representatives of the “Kursk” Operational Command, over the course of two months, the distance to Sumy reported by Russia has increased by 1.5 kilometers, even as Moscow simultaneously claims its troops are advancing.
Ukrainian military officials also pointed out another detail.
As noted by the “Kursk” Operational Command, the “ring road” from which Putin counts his 12 kilometers does not exist in Sumy at all.
“Such is the accuracy of all Russian reports from the front. Because if we were to believe enemy reports, they would have long since exhausted the list of villages in the Sumy region. But every time, they find something to ‘liberate’ all over again,” the statement reads.
The “Kursk” Operational Group also emphasized that the settlements which the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed had been captured remain under the control of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
To confirm this, the Ukrainian military recorded a video directly from the relevant settlements.
Thus, Ukrainian defenders urge people not to trust Russian claims of advances in the Sumy direction, as these claims, according to them, do not reflect the actual situation on the ground.
The “Kursk” Military Group drew attention to this.
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin claimed that the occupying forces were allegedly 12 km away from Sumy. At the same time, as early as late June 2026, he spoke of a distance of 10.5 km, while data from DeepState maps indicate a significantly greater distance.
As a reminder, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Russian leader Vladimir Putin held a closed-door meeting in Bishkek on September 1 on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit. The talks lasted about 90 minutes, and Moscow once again stated its readiness to discuss the Ukrainian issue in Turkey.
As a reminder, Putin claimed two fictitious victories for Russia.
Putin also threatened Ukraine with new strikes on its energy sector.
During the summit in Bishkek, the Russian delegation, led by dictator Vladimir Putin, held a meeting with the Chinese delegation, where the Kremlin leader attempted to paint a rosy picture of a shared future for Russia and China to Xi Jinping. But the whole thing turned out to be rather pathetic.
