Zelenskyy said that Putin is trying to impose new peace terms on the U.S.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia could use any attempts at compromise to make new demands on Washington.
According to Zelenskyy, he believes the U.S. is committed to ending the war, but he believes Moscow could take advantage of this willingness to make concessions. He noted that changes in leadership or policy in other countries could be accompanied by new conditions from the Kremlin.
Zelenskyy also stated that the Russian leadership is trying to use domestic challenges in the U.S. and the international situation to influence the negotiation process.
Separately, the president said that Moscow may be counting on Donald Trump’s desire to demonstrate quick results ahead of the U.S. midterm elections. Zelenskyy urged Washington to take into account the significant difference in capabilities between the U.S. and Russia.
