Earthquakes Could Accelerate the Destruction of the Crimean Bridge — Seismologist

A series of earthquakes near Crimea is having a negative impact on the structure of the Crimean Bridge and the soil beneath its supports. The cumulative effect of these underground tremors could lead to serious problems for the bridge in the future.

Dmytro Hryn, a seismologist at the Institute of Geophysics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, made this statement in a comment to RBC-Ukraine.

According to the expert, the bridge was built in an area with complex soil conditions and high seismic activity. He asserts that the tremors are gradually weakening the bridge’s structure and the foundation beneath it.

The seismologist also noted that the processes caused by constant seismic activity are cumulative in nature and may have long-term consequences for the bridge’s stability.
