Zhorin explained that peace talks are impossible until Russia completely halts its advance
Maksym Zhorin, deputy commander of the Third Army Corps, stated that the Russian Federation currently has absolutely no interest in a genuine peaceful resolution of the conflict.
The reason for the Kremlin’s stance is the ongoing, albeit slow, advance of the occupying forces in certain sectors of the front, which gives the aggressor the illusion of success.
In an interview on the “Army TV” channel, the military official urged Ukrainian society to abandon any illusions about a quick diplomatic resolution to the war at this stage.
Zhorin emphasized that any negotiation processes are currently merely formal, as Moscow has no intention of backing down from its initial aggressive goals.
“Process for the sake of process”—that is how the deputy commander described the current diplomatic efforts.
He noted that as long as the Russian leadership sees even the slightest opportunity for an offensive, it will continue to throw new reserves into battle, despite the enormous number of casualties.
“If the front line moves even slightly, they will keep sending in more and more new forces. Today, it all looks like a process for the sake of a process. But when they can no longer advance and switch to defense, then the faces at the negotiating table will change, and so will the tone of the conversation,” emphasized Maksym Zhorin.
The military official acknowledged that although the occupiers have not achieved the strategic goals set at the start of the invasion, they have had certain tactical successes.
The capture of new territories, even with colossal losses in manpower and equipment, fuels the Kremlin’s desire to continue the aggression rather than seek compromises.
As a reminder, the deputy commander of the Third Assault Brigade explained the reason for Russia’s record losses on the front lines.
The occupiers have also advanced in the Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions.
