Ukrainian Armed Forces strike Moscow with dozens of drones: airports closed, 200 flights delayed

For the second day in a row, Ukraine’s Defence Forces attacked Moscow with dozens of drones. On the evening of 4 January, at least 28 drones were shot down while approaching the city, with raids beginning around 03:00.

This was reported by Moscow’s mayor, Sergei Sobyanin.

“Emergency service specialists are working at the sites where debris has fallen,” he said, without providing further details."

The Russian Ministry of Defence has not yet commented on the mass drone attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the Moscow region.

Russian aviation authorities announced that on 4 January, the airports of the Moscow aviation hub — Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky — were closed “to ensure flight safety.” Later, Zhukovsky resumed operations, while Vnukovo and Domodedovo are “accepting and dispatching flights with coordination from relevant authorities.”

As a result of the drone raids and the implementation of the “Carpet” plan, about 200 flights have already been delayed at Moscow airports.

A red threat level has been declared in the Russian capital and surrounding region.

On New Year’s Eve, drones struck an oil depot and refinery in Russia, causing fires.

On the morning of 31 December, drones hit the FDKU plant “Temp” of the Russian Reserve in Rybinsk, Yaroslavl region.
