On June 24, France recorded the highest average daily temperatures in the history of weather observations, making this day a record-breaking one for the country.
According to meteorologists, the average temperature across the country was 30°C, exceeding previous records.
Meteorologists described the situation as an exceptional heat wave, comparable to the abnormally hot August of 2003.
In France, a red alert has been issued due to the heat in 72 departments. In Paris, temperatures could reach 40°C.
Due to the weather conditions, thousands of schools were forced to cancel or reschedule classes.
Forecasters warn that a weather front is approaching the country’s west coast, which could bring wind gusts of up to 110 km/h and heavy hail.
France has faced power outages amid a record-breaking heat wave that has swept across much of Western Europe. Several regions have reported power outages, as well as the imposition of emergency restrictions and the temporary closure of schools.
The extreme heat in Europe has claimed at least 18 lives.
