Trump administration plans to use banks to track migrants

The Trump administration intends to compel banks to provide citizenship data on all their clients as part of a new effort to identify and expel illegal migrants from the United States, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal. This move aims to strengthen Washington’s fight against illegal immigration.

Under the proposed directive, banks will be required to cooperate more closely with the government in verifying the citizenship status of their customers. This measure is intended to provide an additional tool for detecting migrants residing in the U.S. without proper documentation.

If implemented, this policy could significantly complicate matters for undocumented migrants and alter the role of banks in immigration enforcement in the country.
