Afoko calls for greater involvement of women in NPP structures in Ghana
In Ghana, Aventami Paul Afoko, a contender for the position of national chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), called for more active involvement of women in the party’s administrative structures. He said their participation is crucial to the NPP’s organizational capacity and its election results, MyJoyOnline reports.
The role of women in the party
During his campaign among NPP delegates, Afoko stressed that women work as organizers and communicators, run businesses, and are professionals, farmers, traders, caregivers and strategists. He called them the backbone of families, communities and party structures.
According to the politician, the renewal and repositioning of the NPP are impossible without women playing a central role. Afoko believes that their experience and contributions to various sectors of Ghana’s economy and public life should be reflected in party policy.

The candidate’s promises
The candidate said that if elected national chairman, he would make women’s participation one of the key elements of party organization and policymaking. Among his stated priorities are expanding women’s role in party work, policymaking, fundraising, communications, mobilization and leadership development.
Afoko also said that broader participation by women in decision-making and policymaking would help the NPP restore trust and strengthen its ties with communities across the country. The party is preparing to renew its leadership and revise its strategies after its defeat in the 2024 general election.
