The U.S. military intercepted a sanctioned vessel in the Indian Ocean
During the night, U.S. military personnel boarded the sanctioned vessel M/T DAVINA, which was sailing in the Indian Ocean without a national flag. The interception operation was conducted to inspect the vessel, which was subject to sanctions and was sailing without proper registration.
“Overnight, U.S. forces conducted a maritime interdiction and boarding of the stateless vessel MT DAVINA, located in the Indian Ocean within the INDOPACOM area of responsibility,” the military statement said.
It adds that the command continues to “conduct global operations to enforce maritime law” to dismantle illicit networks and detain “vessels providing material support to Iran,” regardless of where they operate.
“International waters cannot be used as a cover by sanctioned entities. The Department of Defense will continue to prevent individuals engaged in illegal activities and their vessels from moving freely in maritime space," INDOPACOM stated.
