Amnesty International calls for abolition of US immigration service ICE — Dawn
In the United States, human rights organization Amnesty International has called for the abolition of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). As Dawn reports, the organization set out this position in a report released on Thursday. It described ICE as a body playing a leading role in the intensification of immigration enforcement by President Donald Trump’s administration.

The report is titled “We Had Whistles, They Had Guns.” Amnesty International said the document contains evidence of large-scale human rights violations during major ICE operations.
According to the organization, the research is based on more than 150 testimonies collected from March to June in four major cities where ICE concentrated its activities.
Amnesty International USA Director Nadia Daar said that armed federal agents in masks acting with impunity on the streets do not make communities safer. According to her, ICE cannot be fixed, and in order to create an immigration system that complies with international law and human rights standards, the agency must be abolished and work must start anew.

Incidents involving agents
The report was published less than a week after Venezuelan migrant Wilber Garces Perez was wounded by a shot fired by an ICE agent in Austin, Texas. According to the publication, this incident once again intensified outrage in the United States over the methods used by immigration authorities.
In January, two US citizens — 37-year-old Renee Good and Alex Pretti — were killed in Minneapolis after, according to Dawn, they were shot by federal agents. This sparked outrage across the country.
Amnesty International claims that the Trump administration is implementing a system of mass detention and deportation aimed at detaining and expelling as many migrants, asylum seekers, and refugees as possible. ICE and the US Department of Homeland Security did not respond to a request for comment.
