U.S. aircraft carrier sets historic record for time at sea — AP

The world's largest warship, the American aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford, has officially set a record for the longest continuous mission.

This was reported by the AP.

As of April 16, the ship has been at sea for 295 days, which is the longest duration for the U.S. Navy since the end of the Vietnam War.

This figure surpassed the previous record, which was held by the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln. In 2020, that crew spent 294 days at sea.

It is worth noting that the standard duration of combat duty for U.S. ships usually does not exceed six months.

The Gerald R. Ford’s historic mission began back in June 2025, when the ship left its home port in Virginia.

Initially, the aircraft carrier carried out missions in the Mediterranean Sea, but later the scope of its operations expanded significantly due to the escalation of the geopolitical situation.

In October, the ship was urgently redeployed to the coast of Venezuela to strengthen U.S. positions in the region.

After its deployment in the Caribbean, the aircraft carrier received new orders and set sail for the Middle East. This decision was driven by the launch of a large-scale campaign against Iran’s aggressive actions.

The prolonged stay far from home is causing serious concern among military leadership and experts.

The ship has been the subject of heightened attention for several months due to concerns about the crew’s morale and incidents that have occurred on board during this time.

The newest U.S. nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald R. Ford, is poised to surpass modern-era records by becoming the record-holder for the longest continuous deployment.
