Air travel in the United Kingdom has resumed following a major disruption
On the morning of September 9, flights from British airports resumed following a major disruption in the air traffic control system. However, it may take some time for operations to return to normal, as the disruptions caused planes to end up in locations other than where they were scheduled to be.
A system outage lasting several hours on Tuesday led to the cancellation of more than 1,000 flights, affecting the travel plans of hundreds of thousands of passengers.
As flights resume, the administration of London’s Heathrow Airport has advised passengers to check their flight status before traveling due to schedule changes. “We expect the effects of the disruption to continue as aircraft and crews return to their normal schedules,” reads a statement from Britain’s largest airport.
London Gatwick Airport, the country’s second-busiest, also advised passengers to contact the airlines for which they purchased tickets in advance.
Ryanair reported that the disruption affected about 150,000 of its passengers due to the cancellation of more than 200 flights, while British Airways announced the cancellation or rerouting of 100 flights, affecting tens of thousands of people.
