Emeritus Professor John Bright Kobla Aheto dies in Ghana
Emeritus Professor John Bright Kobla Aheto has died in Ghana. The Aheto—Sokpe—Fiaporme family of Tsiame in the Volta Region announced that the scholar, educator and family patriarch died on April 27, 2026, at the age of 80.
Family statement
In an obituary published by MyJoyOnline, the deceased was described as an outstanding scholar, a mentor to many generations and a true son of Tsiame and Ghana. The family said that his contribution to education and the mentorship of generations would remain unforgettable. The statement also described him as a father, grandfather and uncle.
Farewell ceremonies
A pre-burial service, lying in state and tribute ceremony are scheduled for September 18, 2026, at the forecourt of the State House in Accra. According to the schedule, the event will run from 8:30 to 12:30; the dress code is black attire.

On the same day at 20:30, an all-night vigil and memorial evening are due to begin at the family house in Tsiame and continue until dawn. The funeral service and burial are scheduled for September 19 in Tsiame, followed by a private interment at the family cemetery.
A thanksgiving service has been set for September 27, 2026, at 9:00 at the Apostles' Revelation Society Church in Madina, Accra. The family specified a white dress code for this ceremony.
