Guinea declares support for Western Sahara autonomy plan under Moroccan sovereignty
In Guinea, during a meeting of the joint commission with Morocco, the country’s authorities once again declared support for Rabat’s position on Western Sahara. According to MyJoyOnline, citing MAP, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration and Guineans Abroad Morissanda Kouyaté called autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty the sole solution to the long-running dispute.
Commission meeting in Conakry
Guinea’s position was voiced during the eighth session of the Joint Moroccan-Guinean Cooperation Commission in Conakry. The meeting was co-chaired by Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad Nasser Bourita and Morissanda Kouyaté.
Kouyaté said that Guinea consistently supports Morocco’s position on Western Sahara and Morocco’s sovereignty over the territory. He also expressed support for the autonomy model proposed by Rabat, which Morocco promotes at the UN Security Council.

Consulate in Dakhla
The head of Guinea’s foreign ministry described the opening of Guinea’s consulate general in Dakhla as a practical expression of this position. Guinea opened a consulate in the city in January 2020; Morocco views this step as confirmation of support from Conakry.
Nasser Bourita thanked the Guinean authorities for supporting Morocco at regional and international forums, as well as for opening the consulate in Dakhla.
